Pine Class (KS2) - Year 3/4
Roman Shields
 
In Class 2 the children have been learning all about the Romans. They firstly discussed who the Romans were and why they came to Britain and began to explore the Roman Army. In art they then designed and created their own Roman shield (scutum) and practiced forming the defensive 'tortoise'. 
In Art the children in Class 2 have been exploring Roman mosaics. They designed and created their own mosaic using old tiles. 
As part of our history topic 'Ancient Greece', the children in Class 2 have been exploring the story of 'The Trojan Horse'. They enjoyed discussing and looking at a model of the Trojan horse before sequencing and retelling the story in their history books.
In Science the children helped prepare a healthy fruit salad inspired by their health and movement topic. They enjoyed washing, cutting and eating their fruit salad. Afterwards we discussed the importance of eating healthy and having the correct amounts of nutrients!
In Science the children in Class 2 have been learning all about health and movement. They have been exploring a balanced diet and the different food groups which make up a balanced diet.

In DT Class 2 have been exploring, designing and creating Christmas stockings. This week they have been cutting out panel pieces and have been practising joining pieces of fabric together. 
 Christmas has arrived in Class 2! The children are all excited for Christmas and have been enjoying reading Christmas stories alongside their friends. Peppermint the elf has even made an appearance!
In Class 2 we have been exploring light. We set up our own investigation exploring materials to see if they were opaque, translucent and transparent.

Class 2 enjoyed visiting the Wentworth alongside other partnership schools. They practiced different skipping techniques; alternative feet, criss-cross and skipping with a partner. 
In history Class 2 went outside to explore how people cooked in the Stone Age. The children learnt about the importance of fire safety and the different skills needed when cooking on a fire. They especially enjoyed cooking halloumi and making smores on the fire!
As part of outdoor education, the children in Class 2 created their own natural artwork inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy. They collected natural resources to create repeating patterns and shapes.

In Science, Class 2 have been exploring rocks and fossils. They have enjoyed finding, creating and making their own fossils.

In Class Two we had an amazing start to our new school year!
In English we have been sharing the story of the Stone Age Boy which is linked to our prehistoric art work and Stone Age to Iron Age work in History. In maths we have been exploring our times tables and working on place value.
