All pupils in Years 1 to 4 have the opportunity to elect a representative for the School Council, which meets regularly to discuss the children’s ideas. They meet with Mrs Bancroft, our teacher responsible for the Student Council. The representatives then feed back to their peers after each meeting, so that everyone in school is aware of the issues which have been discussed.
The Council has discussed issues and helps to organise fundraising activities such as Sport Relief. At Slaley, we believe that involvement in the School Council raises children’s self-esteem and develops good speaking and listening skills. In addition, it gives children ownership and responsibility preparing for good citizenship.
