Pupils benefit from our rural first school organisation as they are taught in mixed age classes. School staff plan and work closely together and offer teaching expertise and strengths across different year groups. Teaching assistants provide support in both key stages and where necessary, assist with individual and small group intervention. Small year groups and changes to pupil numbers sometimes require adjustments to overall class organisation.
The classes are currently arranged as follows:-
¨ Foundation Unit - taught by:
Mrs. R. Choudhury-Bancroft
Mrs. N. English (TA)
This Unit includes Nursery (from the age of three) and Reception pupils in the morning. Reception pupils continue their education in the afternoon, working in both the EYFS Unit and the Key Stage 1 Class. Recently, we have increased our nursery provision from 15 to 30 hours, enabling our youngest pupils to also access afternoon sessions.
¨ Years 1 and 2 - based in the Key Stage 1 classroom, taught by:
Mrs Rachel O’Neill (Teacher)
Miss H. Thompson (TA) and Miss Sarah Fae (SEN TA)
Years 1 and 2 are referred to as ‘Key Stage 1’.
¨ Years 3 and 4 – based in the Key Stage 2 classroom, taught by:
Mrs. Angela Hayward, Miss Penny Parr and
Mrs. C. Dixon
Years 3 and 4, together with Years 5 and 6, are referred to as ‘Key Stage 2’.
Years 5 and 6 are taught at one of the Hexham Partnership Middle Schools.
